Amatista Cookhouse Review

In addition to a regular breakfast menu, Amatista Cookhouse also has a daily all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet. The buffet costs $21.99 plus tax for adults and $11.99 plus tax for kids and includes drinks like milk, juice, tea, and coffee.

We decided to give the Amatista Cookhouse breakfast buffet a try during one of our leisurely mornings at the hotel. We went in with empty bellies and all of the time in the world. The restaurant was a little busy, but we were seated quickly and received a friendly greeting from our server, Paul, who offered to answer any questions we had about the menu or the buffet.

After giving Paul our drink orders, we left our seats to check out the buffet. It was a very impressive spread. There were multiple egg dishes, including scrambled eggs, poached eggs, and quiche; breakfast meats; potatoes; pancakes; waffles; baked goods like muffins, breads, donuts, and rolls; lox; bagels; toast; cold cereal; fruit; yogurt; granola; and a whole lot more.

We each filled up several plates. There was just too much food to have a little bit of everything, but we tried as much as we could. Everything tasted very good except for the scrambled eggs, which were a little underdone for our tastes (they weren't quite set all the way through). We especially enjoyed the infused juices that were on the buffet as well as the banana bread, which was exceptionally moist and tasty.

Our server, Paul, stopped by multiple times to check on us even though he was quite busy with guests at other tables. When we finally stopped eating, he brought over the bill but encouraged us to linger and stay as long as we wanted to.

Overall, we were quite pleased with the breakfast buffet at Amatista Cookhouse. There was plenty of good tasting food to choose from. Everything seemed to be the appropriate temperature (i.e., cold food was cold; hot food was hot). The dining area had comfortable seating and enough space for lots of guests. We also had superb, friendly service.

The price of the buffet might seem a little high at first glance, but if you consider how much it costs to order a typical breakfast off the Amatista Cookhouse menu, paying $21.99 for an all-you-can-eat buffet with a drink isn't that bad. For example, say you ordered pancakes ($12), bacon ($6), and a glass of juice ($4) off the Amatista Cookhouse menu; you'd pay $22 for your breakfast - the same price as the breakfast buffet with a lot less variety.

The one thing we did not like about Amatista Cookhouse is the mid-afternoon shutdown. The restaurant is closed from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm, which means you can't get a meal at Amatista Cookhouse during this part of the afternoon. That's easy enough to work around, but it would be nice if the restaurant was open all day just for the sake of convenience.

Full disclosure: we did not pay for our meal at Amatista Cookhouse because we had free dining credits that came with our hotel room.
