Antojitos Restaurant Description

Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food is everything that the name promises: authentic Mexican food. You won't find anything here that resembles a Taco Bell dinner; instead, you get real south-of the-border cuisine.  Antojitos has an extensive menu with a variety of tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, tortas, salads, and other specialties. You can also choose from quite a few different appetizers.

Getting the guacamole and chips is always fun since the fresh guacamole is prepared tableside. The nachos and homemade salsa are also excellent and come free when you order a meal. Every dish is prepared from scratch and can be accompanied by equally authentic Mexican beverages, including tequila, margaritas, and imported beer and wine as well as non-alcoholic beverages like soda, San Pelligrino, and hot chocolate.

The restaurant has two levels. The downstairs has a trendy, urban look to it, while the upstairs has an intentionally cozier vibe. Outdoor seating is also available. A mariachi band performs for dinner guests on most nights, though they sometimes take a break during slower periods on Mondays and Tuesdays. The band might surprise you with renditions of modern songs by performers like Miley Cyrus or Bruno Mars.

Location

Antojitos Authentic Mexican Food is located between Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville and The Groove in Universal CityWalk Orlando. The restaurant is so colorful that it is practically impossible to miss once you start heading that way, but you can spot it by looking for drink carts and the aqua-colored VW Van out front.

Antojitos Review & Dining Tips

It's easy to forget about Antojitos due to its location in a side area of CityWalk, so a lot of people miss this hidden gem when they visit Universal Orlando Resort. We really enjoy eating at Antojitos. The outside of this restaurant is beautiful, and indoors, the decor is fun and vibrant, giving you something to look at while you eat. It's worth getting up from your table and walking around a little so that you can view some of the artwork that adorns the walls and ceilings throughout the restaurant.

There is a lot of seating in this place, and reservations are available, but if you are worried about getting a good spot, you can stop in shortly after the restaurant opens in the afternoon, which practically guarantees you a table as soon as you walk in. If you want entertainment while you eat, come later in the night and sit near the stage in the back of the restaurant where the mariachi band performs.

We have eaten the chips, guacamole, and homemade salsa as well as a couple of entrees like the Pork Loin and Mole Enchiladas. The Mole Enchiladas (with house made mole sauce) are absolutely fantastic; we would definitely get this dish again. The Pork Loin wasn't bad, but it wasn't exceptional either; we'll probably skip over this on future visits and get something else. The beans and rice served on the side of many entrees aren't bad, but these sides feel like filler for the plate. The salsa is fantastic - it is really hard to stop eating it once you start. The entree portions weren't huge, but we felt like we got enough to eat when we stopped by for dinner.

You can expect to pay about $15-$17 per plate on average, not counting drinks. In our opinion, the prices are fair and on par with food prices at many other CityWalk restaurants, but if you're on a tight budget, you should expect to pay a little more here than you would for food in the parks. Of course, the food at Antojitos is of better quality than the burgers, hot dogs, and most of the other food at the quick service restaurants in Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. If you aren't going to visit Antojitos for a meal, we recommend stopping by for some salsa, guacamole, and chips or a margarita or two. The service that we've received here has been excellent and we always enjoy the atmosphere.

  • Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville - There is a lot of debate about who has the best margaritas: Antojitos or Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville. We recommend getting margaritas from each so that you can judge for yourself.
