Flight of the Hippogriff is located in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade in Universal Orlando's Islands of Adventure.
Flight of the Hippogriff Ride Description
Flight of the Hippogriff is an outdoor family roller coaster (also known as a junior coaster) with a Harry Potter theme. The peak of the coaster is 42 feet in the air, making it a good ride for young people who have never been on a roller coaster or for other guests who tend to have an aversion to coasters. The track is less than 1,100 feet in length, and the coaster's top speed is 28 miles per hour.
Flight of the Hippogriff Ride History
Flight of the Hippogriff is based on a magical creature that first appeared in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The creature is called a Hippogriff, and it has the head of an eagle and the body of a horse. Hippogriffs are proud creatures, but if you show them the proper respect, they may let you ride them. Flight of the Hippogriff opened with the rest of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade in 2010.
The ride was originally known as The Flying Unicorn. From its opening in 2000 to its closing in 2008, The Flying Unicorn was part of Lost Continent. The ride vehicles were shaped like mechanical unicorns and took guests through an enchanted forest. After closing in 2008, The Flying Unicorn was refurbished and re-themed for The Wizarding World.
Express passes are accepted at the entrance of Flight of the Hippogriff.

UO Fan Guide Ride Tips
- You can take your bags and other loose articles on Flight of the Hippogriff. However, you should be advised that leg room is limited. Two people are seated per row, and the fit can be very tight for two adults.
- You pass Buckbeak the Hippogriff in his nest as you walk through the queue. Bowing before a Hippogriff is the polite way to approach this creature, so don't be surprised if you see a few guests stop abruptly and bend at the waist when they see him.
- Other rides in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade include Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Dragon Challenge, and Hogwarts Express - Hogsmeade Station.
UO Fan Guide Mini Review of Flight of the Hippogriff
The Flight of the Hippogriff is not the most thrilling coaster in Islands of Adventure. The drops are small, and the ride length is crazy short. But that's okay. The real appeal lies in the views. You get a great look at Hogwarts Castle and Hogsmeade Village from your perch in the ride vehicle. The queue is also a must-do for every Harry Potter fan since it is the only way to properly see Hagrid's Hut.
Wait times for this short ride can get excessive and often exceed 60 minutes on busy days. Try to ride Flight of the Hippogriff early in the day, especially if you have early entry to Islands of Adventure, or very late in the day after the crowds have thinned out a bit.
