Universal's Cinematic Spectacular Show Description

Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories took place in the Universal Studios Florida Lagoon (the large water-filled area at the center of the park). It was classified as a musical show, but it is much more than that. The show incorporated dancing fountains, lights, and fireworks. But the real focus of the show was on movie clips, which were projected on waterfall screens framed within large, scaffold-like set pieces that rose up out of the lagoon shortly before the show began.

The show was narrated by the smooth, familiar voice of Morgan Freeman. Movie clips were also accompanied by a musical soundtrack featuring songs from movies like ET: The Extra Terrestrial, Cape Fear, Psycho, and Back to the Future. Movie clips were bunched into segments like 100 Years of Heroes, 100 Years of Good vs. Evil, 100 Years of Horror, 100 Years of Laughter, and 100 Years of Triumph.

Movie clips, like this one from E.T the Extra-Terrestrial, were displayed on multiple screens in the lagoon.

Universal's Cinematic Spectacular Show History

Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories opened in May of 2012 to celebrate Universal Studios' 100th anniversary. The show replaced Universal 360: A Cinesphere Spectacular, a similar show that featured fireworks and movie clips projected onto spherical domes in the lagoon. Universal 360: A Cinesphere Spectacular replaced Dynamite Nights Stunt Spectacular, a Miami Vice themed stunt show that opened in 1990 with the park and closed in February of 2000. Universal's Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories closed permanently in September of 2017.
